Cool Hummingbird Pictures

As I left a service call today, a customer of mine asked me to look at a "miracle of nature" as she called it.  She walked me to a tree, pointed to a branch and eagerly asked, "Do you see it, do you see it?"

I didn't, but soon did.  A tiny... may I emphasize the word "tiny"?... nest precariously hung on a small branch.  Protruding from this fragile creation was a tiny head with an exceptionally long beak.  It was a hummingbird nest.

This ultra-fine work of nature (do I sound like a green, tree-spiking, eco-maniac?) was beautiful to behold.  The bird, though no doubt terrified, was brave to the point of insolence in the interest of protecting its soon-to-be-visible offspring.

I took several pictures at this point and then the customer suggested that I get closer (I was within three feet already), scare it away and then take pictures of the contents of the nest, herself being too short to accomplish said task.

This I did, finding two small white eggs in the bottom of the nest which served to please me to no end.

These hummingbirds were tenacious creatures, building their nest withing reach of a busy sidewalk, undeterred by pedestrians, picture-takers or the elements.  Apparently the twig upon which the nest was perched was constantly whipped about in the wind, which would have discouraged most creatures to reconsider but apparently not the hummingbird.

On any other day I would have shot this bird, but on this day I was touched.

Can you find it?

From the top down.

Wow.
